8011 aluminum foil is an Al-Fe-Si alloy and the most widely used foil grade worldwide. Its iron and silicon content gives higher strength than 1xxx foil while keeping good formability, making it the default choice for household foil jumbo rolls, food containers, yogurt and cup lids, pharmaceutical lidding and ROPP bottle caps.
8006 is an Al-Fe-Mn alloy with higher iron and manganese content. It offers more strength and elongation than 8011 at the same gauge, so it is preferred for deep-drawn smoothwall containers and airline trays that must be hermetically sealed.

Wrinkle-Wall vs Smoothwall Containers
- Wrinkle-wall containers: pressed in one stroke with pleated side walls. Usually 8011 or 3003 in O, H22 or H24 at 0.03 – 0.10 mm. Economical for take-away, bakery and household trays.
- Smoothwall containers: smooth walls with a flat curled rim that can be heat-sealed with a lid. Deeper draw and tighter tolerances call for 8006 or 3004 foil.
- Temper choice: softer O temper for deep draws; H22 / H24 when the tray must be stiffer when filled.
