1235 aluminum foil is a 1xxx-series alloy with at least 99.35% aluminum and a combined silicon-plus-iron limit of 0.65%. That balance gives good rolling behavior at very thin gauges, which is why 1235 is the standard alloy for "double-zero" foil of 6 – 9 µm.
Converters laminate 1235-O foil with PET, paper and PE for snack pouches, coffee packs, aseptic milk and juice cartons and tobacco inner liners. Heavier 1235 gauges are used for household foil, insulation tape and, in H18 temper, blister lidding and battery foil.

Pinholes in Thin 1235 Foil
Pinholes are tiny through-holes formed during rolling, mostly from inclusions in the metal. Their number rises sharply as foil gets thinner, so for gauges below about 10 µm buyers usually specify a maximum pinhole count per square meter and a maximum pinhole diameter.
For laminated packaging the plastic layers seal most pinholes, but moisture- and oxygen-sensitive products still need low counts. Tell us your end use and we will confirm the pinhole limit we can guarantee for your gauge.

Weight (g/m²) = thickness (µm) × density (g/cm³); yield (m²/kg) = 1000 ÷ weight. Theoretical values; actual yield varies within thickness tolerance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is double-zero aluminum foil?
"Double-zero" refers to foil thinner than 0.01 mm, written as 0.00x mm, typically 6 – 9 µm. It is rolled in pairs (double-rolled), so one side is bright and the other matte. 1235 and 8079 are the main alloys.
Should I choose 1235 or 8079 for flexible packaging?
1235 is the standard, economical choice for most laminates. 8079 is stronger with higher elongation at the same gauge, so it is preferred for retort pouches, cold-form blisters, battery pouch film and other demanding structures.
What thickness is used for aseptic packaging?
Aseptic liquid cartons normally use 6.3 – 9 µm O-temper foil laminated between paperboard and PE layers.
Can 1235 foil be used for pharmaceutical blister lidding?
Yes. Push-through lidding foil is typically 1235-H18 or 8011-H18 at 20 – 25 µm, printed on one side and coated with a heat-seal lacquer on the other.
What wettability class do I need for lamination?
For solvent or solventless adhesive lamination and coating, Class A (fully wetted by the test solution) is normally required; Class B is acceptable for less critical uses.
