6063 aluminum is the most widely extruded alloy worldwide. Its magnesium and silicon content (Al-Mg-Si system) allows it to be heat-treated to moderate strength (T5, T6 tempers) while maintaining excellent extrudability, smooth surface finish and bright anodizing response, making it the default choice for architectural profiles, T-slot modular framing systems, furniture, heat sinks and general fabrication.

We supply 6063 aluminum extrusions in T5 (general-purpose), T6 (higher strength), and T66 (T6 with additional heat treatment for architectural window/door frames per GB/T 5237). Surface finishes include mill, anodized (clear, black, bronze), powder coated and electrophoresis.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 6063-T5 and 6063-T6?

T5: profiles are cooled from extrusion temperature and artificially aged without solution heat treatment. T6: profiles are solution heat treated at 530°C, water quenched and aged, giving about 20 – 30% higher strength than T5. T5 is more economical for general-purpose profiles; T6 for structural applications.

Can 6063 aluminum be welded?

Yes, 6063 can be welded using TIG or MIG with ER4043 or ER5356 filler. The heat-affected zone will soften to near-O temper strength. For non-structural joints this is acceptable; for structural welds, design accordingly or re-heat-treat after welding.

What is T66 temper?

T66 is a Chinese standard temper (GB/T 5237) for architectural profiles: T6 treatment with additional requirements for tensile strength ≥205 MPa, yield ≥170 MPa and hardness ≥10 HW for window and door frame extrusions.

Why is 6063 better than 6061 for architectural profiles?

6063 extrudes more easily into complex hollow shapes (multi-cavity window frames, curtain wall mullions), produces a smoother mill finish, and anodizes to a brighter, more uniform appearance. 6061 is stronger but harder to extrude and less attractive after anodizing.
